Hi there & welcome to 2021!
I guess 2020 was a year that led many of us to reflect on their priorities in life. That has also been true for me. For the first time in quite some years, I thus ended up making new years resolutions.
However, according to studies, more than 80% of new year’s resolutions fail. [1]
That’s the reason why I am now starting this newsletter. To keep myself accountable.
I know this is quite a personal journey. Nevertheless, I do hope to produce some insights that are also interesting to other people.
So, if by 31st of December 2021, I am the sole subscriber to this newsletter, that’s just fine. However, if you’d be interested in following along, I’d be happy to have you as a companion on this journey.
My new year’s resolutions/What you can expect to read about in this newsletter:
Reading mindfully: I commit to consciously reflect on what I read, write down my main takeaways & derive concrete action steps.
My interests are quite widespread, but probably there will be an emphasis on entrepreneurship, tech, data science & health.Maximizing impact: I commit to try my best at making a positive impact in this world & honestly (and as objectively as possible) evaluate my efforts.
I am not sure yet how to best measure this, but aiming to work on this.Bursting the bubble: I commit to familiarize myself with topics/schools of thoughts/realities that are different from my own & do something (even if its just trivial) that I have never done before in my life every fortnight.
Nurturing curiosity: I commit to exploring topics that spark my interest & go beyond the surface.
Fostering meaningful relationships: I commit to actively seek out meaningful personal interactions & invite someone over for dinner every two weeks*.
Exploring the planet: I commit to spend multiple hours in nature and/or visit a place I have never been to before every week.
Based on this you can expect a weekly curated list of insightful readings & podcasts, bite- sized pieces of interesting information and deep dives into future-relevant topics.
If you already have any feedback or suggestions for topics, feel free to reach out to me. I would also be curious to hear about your new year’s resolutions (if you made any) Just write me an email or - I guess most of you know me in person - just text me :)
[1] I wasn’t able to find any scientific publication backing this. However, quite some newspapers have referred to this statistic and I have therefore adopted this baseline. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kathycaprino/2019/12/21/the-top-3-reasons-new-years-resolutions-fail-and-how-yours-can-succeed/?sh=3378e5366992
